New Arrivals Mean New Groups at Chimp Haven

Tue Jan 22, 2008

Chimp Haven Inc. has welcomed home 20 additional chimpanzees in the last 3 months, with more on the way!  New arrivals mean new groups are being formed and new friends are being made.  Chimp Haven is now home to over 130 chimpanzees living in 15 different groups based on their individual needs.  We will soon have four large groups rotating through our forested habitats!

In November we welcomed Amy, Emmitt, Bo, Billy Ray, Cody, Steve, Harry, George, Libby, and Connie.  All have been introduced to other chimpanzees and are adjusting to a leisurely retirement here at the sanctuary.  Some took to the grass and the pine straw bedding more quickly than others.  They are enjoying their varied diet and we often hear choruses of food grunts as the carestaff tosses out the morning meal.

Chimp Haven welcomed the new year by welcoming 10 additional male chimpanzees to the sanctuary.  This group has lots of personality!  And some of the most original names so far!  Apache, Cliff, Scott, Sting, Thundarr, Shonda, Peewee, Soko, Tarzan and Zort have all been introduced to each other and are getting to know their new home and new carestaff.  Apache and Cliff are brothers and were reunited in this group.  They were happy to be together again and immediately embraced one another when the doors were opened between them.

As the Chimp Haven family continues to grow, we thank all of you for your interest and your support!  If you'd like to see a photo gallery of some of the new chimpanzees and the new groups click here
