Tika is one of our spunky chimpanzees. She is always observing what the caregivers are doing. One afternoon, I was doing p.m. duties and Tika came running inside for her carrot. I noticed she was dragging a toy shopping cart along with her. She came up to me, took her carrot, and went to sit on a tire. She took a bite and put it down beside her. She then reached for some newspaper, wadded it into a ball, and soaked it with water. Tika had created a wet wash cloth and started scrubbing away at her pink shopping cart until it was clean. I was very impressed with what she had learned from watching us clean. The chimpanzees continue to amaze me every day. I am so lucky to be a part of their lives.
