Cooler temperatures can only mean one thing at Chimp Haven…the fall season of Chimpanzee Discovery Days has arrived! Join us for our first fall event Saturday, September 21, 9 a.m. to noon. This month’s focus will be Africa. Visitors will learn about chimpanzees’ natural habitat, enjoy African dances by Power and Grace School of Performing Arts and observe our residents in their wooded environment. Fair trade vendor, The Do Good Store, will be selling items from underprivileged communities in African countries.
“We are excited to host another fall season of Chimpanzee Discovery Days,” Chimp Haven President and CEO Cathy Willis Spraetz said. “It is our goal to educate our visitors of the importance of preserving the natural African habits that this great ape species occupies and the beautiful culture that accompanies it.”
New to Discovery Days will be food vendors. Po’Boys & Rich Girls and Geauxsilces will be onsite with tasty food for sale. Attendees will also be able to walk the Chimp Trails and take the scavenger hunt challenge. Admission is free, but everyone is encouraged to bring a contribution for the chimpanzees. Among the items needed are peanut butter, honey, sugar free Jello and streamers. Visitors are also asked to bring books, CD’s, DVD’s and video games to go toward Chimp Haven’s Thrifty Peanuts account. Chimp Haven will receive 50 percent of the profits to aid in the care of the chimpanzees.
Also, mark your calendars for Chimp Haven’s second annual Fall Festival held in conjunction with the October Chimpanzee Discovery Day on Oct. 19, 2013. Visitors will experience an autumn celebration filled with scavenger hunts, pick-your-own-pumpkin patch, photo opportunities, face painting, great vendors and behind-the-scene hay rides.
