Chimp Haven is not open to the public on a daily basis, however, as part of our mission, we inform the public about endangered primates, particularly chimpanzees, and the need for their conservation in the wild and protection in captivity through various educational activities. Our educators are passionate about sharing information with a broad audience about chimpanzees’ behavior and natural history and all of the human-caused threats to their existence. Our goal is to empower people to take action in their lives that can positively influence the future for chimpanzees.
Classrooms that Care
Classrooms that Care is a K-12th grade structured education program where students first learn about chimpanzees in the classroom and then on the Chimp Haven campus. The field trip portion of the visit provides an exciting opportunity for a first hand observation of the chimpanzees which enhances the classroom teaching content. The students learn about African rainforests, witness the consequences of our planet’s diminishing resources, discover their special link in the food chain, and explore the world of science. The Classrooms that Care program is designed to reinforce the skills and concepts that students are learning in the classroom and to satisfy curriculum guidelines for grades K-12.
